A coastal Maine wedding at the historic 1774 Inn in Phippsburg

1774-Inn-Phippsburg-Maine-Wedding-22.jpg

Amanda & Florian may be deeply, madly, joyfully in love with each other - but they also feel that way about the 1774 Inn in Phippsburg, Maine, where they had their dream wedding. They LOVE Maine, being outdoors, smelling the ocean, snuggling by the water - so it was pretty clear they wanted to get married there. Advised by her family not to choose somewhere TOO far north into rural Maine, the couple decided to visit the 1774 Inn. It was a freezing cold day, and they joked that all they wanted was a hot beverage by a crackling fire. When they arrived at the inn, they were greeted by the owners with hot cider and invited to come sit by the fireplace. They were smitten.

Fast forward to the perfect 75 degree Saturday in July, Amanda & Flo said I do in front of their 100 guests, who traveled from all over the world to celebrate with them. We arrived at a private beach in Phippsburg for couple portraits, and upon seeing the ocean, Amanda flung off her heels and sprinted towards the ocean, with the sand between her toes and Florian in hand, and screamed, "THIS IS WHAT I WANTED!!! THIS IS MAINE!!!"

There was not one but TWO German family singalongs, on the ukulele and the kazoo, too. Kids played with bubble wands, there were lawn games during cocktail hour, and they celebrated the end of their first dance with a rose petal toss down the steps of the barn. The night ended on an extra sweet note with TONS of homemade pie, fresh jars of jam to take home, and a beautiful cake made by the owner of the Inn (a fantastic husband and wife team, accompanied by the talented and beloved event coordinator Marianne).

A surprise yacht proposal in Boston Harbor

She said YASSS! ⛵️ This surprise proposal on a yacht in Boston Harbor was simply perfection - scroll down to see the sky on FIRE! 🔥 Now that's what I call a sunset! ⠀
⠀
I know you're all curious HOW it went down... Lainey had no idea of their evening plans, so she was totally surprised! No, I didn't hide below deck waiting for the moment... I "came with the boat" (you know, like photographers at Disney World ready to take your photo when you arrive) and was casually documenting their yacht experience - toasting wine at dinner, smiling sitting on the bow, walking around. #unsuspecting⠀
⠀
Jay put on their special song and asked her to dance, which was our CUE! It was GO TIME!!!! He got down on one knee, asked her to marry him, and it was a big yes! Then we popped a bottle, had the most joyous, silly photo shoot, and even stopped at Lovells Island to run around on the beach at dusk 🥰

Thank you Amanda & Captain Gibson for making this night amazing with Charles Riverboat Company!

A Popponesset Inn wedding on Cape Cod

Kelly & Dan are true New Yorkers, and very much in love with the city where they built their life together. Kelly is the master of NYC sunset skyline photos, and Dan is the head chef of their kitchen. They love taking long walks on the river, sharing drinks at the pier at happy hour, jetting off to new places (especially if they’re in Europe or involve a beach / pool) and good old Netflix marathons on their couch at home. Dan proposed underneath the Staple Street bridge in Manhattan, where they returned for their engagement photos last summer!

On a perfect 70 degree summer Friday, Kelly & Dan took happy hour to a new level with all their family and friends gathered at the Popponesset Inn in Mashpee on Cape Cod. Kelly wore her grandmother’s earrings, a new necklace from Dan, her mother’s blue sapphire ring, and borrowed a diamond bracelet from Dan’s mom. They read letters to each other back to back on the beach right before they turned around to see each other for their first look. Their ceremony was short and sweet just as they wanted it to be, then spent the night eating cupcakes (with their adorable catchphrase Mc2 on them - McDonough x McNichol), dancing with their besties, and grabbing late night bites of french fries!

A whimsical Lighthouse Point Carousel wedding in East Haven, CT

Chrissy & Nick: lovers of Italian food, curling up on the couch to watch anything from scary movies to cooking shows, camping, and most of all, each other. They met while living in Boston, and we even took their engagement photos on the beach their apartment overlooked. After almost 5 years, Nick popped the question at a Christmas party, and the rest was history.

On one of the hottest Connecticut days in May, Chrissy & Nick tied the knot in front of their family & friends at Lighthouse Point in East Haven. Wearing her great grandma Clara’s bracelet and her grandmother Violet's necklace, Chrissy walked barefoot in the sand down the aisle before her uncle gave her away. Guests rode the magical carousel, danced to the setting sun, ate wood fired pizza from a pizza truck, and danced the night away. Their carnival celebration wouldn’t be complete without some late night cotton candy and favor bags filled with rock candy and salt water taffy.

Chrissy & Nick, you both are so special to me - I wish you decades of happiness, silliness, laughter, and love.

Thank you so much to all the amazing vendors!

A spring, oceanside elopement in New England

Emma & Greg's oceanside wedding in South Dartmouth was one of the most unique days I've ever had the honor of photographing. On this misty, rainy day, Emma got ready in the colorful church daycare with her mother, father, and brother by her side. She slipped on her stunning BHLDN dress and glittery pair of Bagdley Mischka's before heading downstairs to the ceremony. Greg's family joined Emma's family in the pews, and in front of all eleven guests, they shared their vows and made their marriage official.

A few raindrops came down as Emma & Greg walked down the dock to the waterfront. They kissed, hugged, and laughed before heading to dinner with their families. They're traveling to Korea in May for a traditional ceremony overseas. Wishing this sweet couple all the love and happiness in their marriage <3

An historic autumn Newburyport, MA wedding

Not many people get to say “I do” twice… except for Andrea & Dan!

Love is overcoming all obstacles, no matter how big or small, and coming out the other end stronger than before. Andrea & Dan embody this truly and completely. This May, the couple learned the heartbreaking news that Dan’s father’s brain cancer had returned. Family is paramount to Andrea & Dan, and they decided to put together a wedding in just three days time, because a wedding without Dan Sr. wouldn't be a wedding at all. With only their immediate family present, they pledged their love to each other with tears in their eyes, and headed to the beach for their husband & wife portraits and dinner. But the party was still on for October 15th! They got ready in the elegant, historic Garrison Inn in Newburyport and gathered at night at Steeple Hall at Mission Oak Grille. All of Andrea & Dan’s friends and family joined them to renew their vows, enjoy a meal together, eat cake, and tear up the dance floor for the #RileyRerun!

A summer sunrise Crane Beach engagement in Ipswich, MA

When you think of your favorite high school sweethearts, you immediately have to think of Alexsis & Keith. As Alexsis explained, “We officially met in English class senior year. We went to prom together and then went to separate colleges that fall. Two months into school Keith called me via Skype to tell me that he loved me and wanted to be together. We have never looked back since.”

Keith popped the question at a winery in Ontario, and they have been celebrating every day.

Watching their older siblings get married has them so excited for their own wedding at Crane Estate. Alexsis & Keith knew that they might not have enough time to make it down to Crane Beach (especially in heels and tuxedos), so they opted to have their engagement session at sunrise on the beach instead. Add in some mimosas at 6:30am (sans OJ) and we called that a great morning!

A glamorous Danversport Yacht Club wedding

“Once in awhile, right in the middle of an ordinary life, love gives us a fairy tale.”

It’s 2009 at the Danversport Yacht Club. A few hundred high school seniors exit their limos sporting suits, gowns, and boutonnieres. Courtney & Mark, who had already been dating for a few years, spend their prom dancing the night away with all their friends before going away to college. Seven years later, they returned to that very ballroom to celebrate their marriage.

The sun was blazing at a scorching 96 degrees on August 14th. Courtney, accompanied by all her best friends dressed in blush, slipped into her wedding gown that would hold all her butterflies in. She wore her mother’s garter, and wrapped a piece of her mother’s wedding gown around her colorful bouquet. Mark and his boys got ready a few houses down, as he opened a gift and card from his wife-to-be.

Mark couldn’t help but shed a tear as Courtney walked down the aisle. They both said “I do” and hopped on a white trolley to Danversport Yacht Club. Grand chandeliers and gold and white details lined the ballroom - the space looked like a palace for for a new king and queen.

Courtney & Mark are loving, caring, and incredibly thoughtful. Thoughtful enough that I sat at a real table with real guests - nothing makes me feel appreciated and loved like being treated like a guest! Wishing you both the happiest marriage that is so full of love, you have extra to give to others.

A champagne & sparkler Cape Cod engagement

A few years ago, Stephanie fell for John... no, really - she tripped over his foot.

After persistently asking for Stephanie's phone number three times afterwards, she gave him her email address - you know, just in case. They began to exchange love letters in the weeks following, and before they knew it, they were in love. As Stephanie says, "We had so much in common, yet we are still so different, from the very start. I am a very detail-oriented, Type A, future-oriented person. John is more laidback, spontaneous and always cracking me up even when I am stressed. We balance each other out." John proposed to her in a vineyard in Rhode Island in May, and they're so excited to get married!

Stephanie & John's dream engagement shoot took place at John's family's home on Cape Cod. This beach front beauty was built from the ground up in 1951 by John's grandfather - how amazing! We started with pizza, took a walk around the charming neighborhood, and then popped champagne on the beach and lit some sparklers to conclude the night. Amazing is an understatement!

A nautical inspired Danversport Yacht Club wedding

"As the ocean is never full of water, so is the heart never full of love."

Jillian & Daniel’s love for each other as deep as the ocean and unwavering as a strong ship at sea. After meeting online years ago, and enlisting the help of her sister to make sure Dan wasn’t a murderer, the two fell for each other quickly and passionately. They survived months of long distance halfway across the country after getting engaged, and were finally and happily reunited before their wedding. They love learning and teaching, holding hands at the beach, and hunting for vintage antiques. Jill loves the classic look of pearls and everything teal, and Dan is a proud papa to his beloved puppy child.

The clouds on their wedding day looked a bit dark and full of rain, yet the rain never came that night. They exchanged rings and vows by the ocean in front of a beautiful, floral covered gazebo in front of their closest friends and family. There wasn’t a straight face in the room during the humorous toasts, and the DJ knew exactly how to keep the party going strong all night. Even 95-year-old Grampie was busting moves on the dance floor. Their two families became one, and the newlyweds couldn’t have been happier before jetting off to their European honeymoon.

To Jill & Dan - you both are an inspiration for how to love, how to be thoughtful, and how to be kind. Wishing you two the best years of your life - every one spent together.

Kristin & Eric // An intimate Cape Cod wedding

"True love is the joy of life."

On this beautiful Sunday, I finally met Kristin on her big day. Cool as a cucumber and full of smiles, she presented me with a ball jar full of Skittles when I walked into her bridal suite. I’ve never been so surprised in my life! Thoughtful doesn’t even begin to describe Miss K. She sure found a perfect partner, though - Eric. With their love of running, the beach and going on adventures together, Kristin & Eric are the perfect fit.

The Cape Cod ocean breeze was refreshing as the sun beamed down on these two, as they pronounced their love in front of their closest family and a few friends. They tied the knot (literally, joining their hands) and ran off to the beach, hiking up her dress to wiggle her toes in the sand. Their reception was full of laughs and tears - and some of the most impressive dance moves I’ve ever seen! I can’t say enough about their guests, too - so hospitable, kind, and loving - they made me feel like family, and it was the first time meeting them! What a special group of people that Kristin & Eric are so lucky to call family.

K&E, I can’t wait to follow all your adventures as husband and wife. May your love grow over the years, and your laughter even more.

Stacy & Chris // A vintage inspired waterfront wedding

"What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us."

I couldn't have been happier kicking off summer 2015 wedding season with Stacy & Chris. This vintage loving, each other loving pair got the wedding of their dreams.

I got out of the car at Cape Ann Marina Resort and drew in a big breath of fresh ocean air. Ahhh, was it fantastic. Who else loves the smell of the ocean? I got upstairs to find the lovely Miss Stacy getting her hair done. Amazing would be a gross understatement of this girl - I can see clearly why Chris is crazy about her. She is sweet times a million, has the biggest, genuine laugh, is ambitious and a dreamer, and above all, I just loved how she would thank everyone and all her vendors all throughout the day. And not a thanks, yup thank you, but she just gave off such an air of gratefulness that it was impossible not to just feel so appreciated and loved on her day! Talk about the best way to start your day.

After exchanging their vows at their local parish, they sealed the deal with (a few!) kisses and a reminder from the ring bearer, "Don't worry ladies, I'm still single."

With massive storm clouds approaching, the definite chance of rain, and the clock ticking before the nonexistent sun completely went away, we drove the 40 minutes back to the marina. I wanted to take them to Wingaersheek Beach to get a little sandy & lovey, but that proved to be impossible. We arrived with 20 minutes left to take pictures of these beauties, and lo and behold we walked to the very corner of the property where there was an old shack with the paint chipping off and a crooked roof, and my was it perfect. We ducked under a fence to this little patch of tall green grass and what looked like an abandoned greenhouse frame overlooking the marshes and water. There was a hairline break in the clouds at 8:05pm, and we got a slice of golden sunshine as it dipped behind the trees and just like that, we were whisked off to the reception.

The food, the cake, the dancing, the lights... the reception was fun and love swirled together, with beautiful little decorative touches handmade by the bride.

Stacy & Chris really just make my heart sing. It was such an honor to be there for them on their big day, and I know these two will share years and years of immense happiness and joy together.
