A Halloween Boston City Hall + Granary Burial Ground + Beacon Hill wedding

Anne and Campbell LOVE all things spooky, and were in the process of planning a Halloween wedding at a brewery for 2020… until they got overwhelmed and realized they would be much much happier with something a lot more intimate. So, Boston City Hall it was!

They have three fur children who rule our lives, Noomi, Tobey, and Esmeralda. Anne is a teen librarian who thinks tweens are the best patrons and Campbell is an animator and artist who sings to his cats. They love trying new breweries, playing video games, painting, reading, and planning out their next tattoo. Campbell proposed in San Diego on the Sunset Cliffs, wearing an unreasonably warm jacket all day to hide the ring.

On Halloween 2019, it was a whopping 70 degrees. The forecast called for a 90% chance of heavy rain and 25mph winds all day. The skies dumped right up until their ceremony, when the clouds parted and the humidity lifted. They wrote their own vows, and cried reading them to each other. Anne and Campbell were SO excited to be officially official!!! We stopped at King’s Chapel Burial Ground, then hit Granary Burial Ground (where Paul Revere is buried, established in 1660. YUP!!!!), the epitome of all things spooky + Boston. They climbed up Beacon Hill and marveled at the cobwebs, jack-o-lanterns, skeletons, and ghouls around the neighborhood before ending at the yellow and orange dotted Public Garden. Even the ducklings were in Halloween costumes!

Kelsey and Brian met online in 2011 while they were in grad school at Notre Dame. After they finished their degrees, Kelsey moved to Chicago for a new job and they took turns visiting each other on weekends. After a year, Brian got a job in Boston (another year of even longer distance). Finally, Kelsey found a job in Boston in 2016 and they’ve been happily living together since (with their two cats, Magellan ("Goobs") and Lady ("Potatoes")

In March 2019, they stayed at a cute old inn in the Berkshires. The proposal was supposed to go down during a hike to a waterfall, but the trail was unexpectedly covered in mud and ice. The car almost got stuck in the mud and Brian had to improvise. He found a botanical garden instead, and asked Kelsey to be his wife!

Their wedding day predicted 40mph winds and pouring rain. There were flood warnings all over Boston, cautioning the public on power outages and downed trees. But Kelsey and Brian completely lucked out! The storm started about an hour after their session was over. Kelsey did her own hair and makeup, as well as made her trendy hoop bouquet! They love the Public Garden in the fall, and the old charm of Beacon Hill, so we adventured through Back Bay, popped champagne with Romeo and Juliet the swans in witness, and even had a giant group of excited tourists ask to take photos with them. An incredible wedding day indeed!

Allison and JP go wayyy back to high school, although they didn’t really meet again until a mutual friend’s wedding in 2016. Allison told JP that she was a terrible dancer… and the pick up line WORKED! After a few years of dating, JP came home from a Bruins game and said, “Let’s get married.” She thought he was joking, but replied, “Ok, when?” and they started planning! It was the most non-traditional engagement, but it was perfect for them. They picked out a ring together, and kept the whole thing a fun little secret between the two of them! Until October 1st that is, when they tied the knot at Boston City Hall with their chatty, adorable four year old sidekick Sophia. It was a beautiful fall day as they traveled to the Boston Public Garden and danced around Beacon Hill, excited for their celebration dinner and the big online reveal to everyone they know. They’re going on a three part honeymoon next week - time to relax in Hawaii! Congrats to the new Mr & Mrs!

A joyful, fall Beacon Hill engagement in Boston, MA

Aymee and Colin met through a mutual friend. When Aymee arrived at the bar Colin was at, Colin, looking a little disheveled, turned to Aymee and said “I just got into a fight about feminism” to which Aymee replied, “I think I love you.” Weeks later, Colin played “Be My Girlfriend” by NSYNC for Aymee to make it official. Four years later, they hiked on the same mountain where they first said “I love you” to each other, and Colin proposed!

They ran around Beacon Hill, laughing and piggybacking and disrupting the general peace and quiet on a Sunday 😉 Then we went to the Public Garden and ended in Back Bay pretending the historic brownstones were all ours.

A Cambridge City Hall + MIT wedding

12 years after Jeff helped Victoria move into her freshman dorm at MIT, they paraded on Killian Court where it all started on their wedding day! After running around Beacon Hill and the Public Garden, they exchanged vows with tears in both their eyes at Cambridge City Hall.⠀

Victoria lives in Seattle and Jeff has one year left to finish his PhD in Virginia, so this week they spent together in Boston was extra special.

"The more I learned, the more there was to like – I discovered Jeff to be as compassionate as he is logical, as humble as he is intelligent, and possessive of a curiosity that continues to inspire me on a near-daily basis."⠀

Cross country long distance relationships are no joke, and it takes an extra-unbreakable bond, clear communication, and lots of patience to make it work. They're counting down the days when they can live in the same city again, but for now, they're enjoying their mini-moon in beautiful Boston!

Thank you to the amazing vendors!

An Irish Boston Public Garden wedding

Elaine & Conor said "I do" in the Public Garden on Friday, but you have to say it like they did, in an adorable Irish accent! These two met EIGHT years ago out dancing, "where we immediately hit it off and got on like a house on fire" 🔥⠀

Conor moved to Boston for work and Elaine is finishing up her residency in Ireland, but that doesn't phase them - they've done distance off and on and know that Skype dates and transatlantic travel is the best cure!

The new Mr. & Mrs. Smyth had a first look (Conor got very emotional!), a sweet Irish ceremony with my dearest JOP Priscilla officiating (and 30 curious onlookers in the park), traveled around Beacon Hill, and ended with a bottle of champagne at the waterfront all before their romantic dinner at Mistral that night!

Thank you to the amazing vendors!

A sentimental Boston City Hall + Public Garden wedding

Anna & Matt have been together forever! They shared their first kiss in the rain overlooking the beach at Salem Willows way back in high school 🥰 A couple of college degrees, an apartment, a house and a dog later... 💍⠀

SO, everything from the pouring rain on that day, the romantic willow trees in the Public Garden, to their date (the eve of their 12th anniversary) came full circle 😭 They were so excited to breathe a sigh of relief that they finally did it (and so people would stop asking when / where / how they'd be getting married after all those years 😂)⠀

Their parents joined them for their Boston City Hall ceremony, and the rest of their families met them at the Boston Public Garden. Anna’s sisters surprised them with a custom wedding sign, too! So adorable! They waltzed through the garden, up to the State House, and ended in Beacon Hill, on Joy Street <3

A summertime Boston City Hall wedding

Jingyi & Qian may have lived on the same street since they were 13 years old, but they didn’t meet until their freshman year of high school. They started dating right after graduation, and attended the same college in their hometown of Nanjing, China. Now they’re both pursuing their PhD’s in America!⠀
⠀
If there’s anything they love as much as each other, it’s spicy food. As Jingyi put it, “We like spicy food, cooking spicy food, and eating spicy food and watching TV shows at home.” Safe to say they keep it hot 🔥 🔥 🔥 They got married on a hot Friday in July with their best friends (who flew in from different parts of the country for them!) at Boston City Hall, then headed over to the Boston Public Garden and Beacon Hill for their portraits!

A romantic, 1930's inspired Boston Public Garden wedding

Boston City Hall may have cancelled their appointment, but the show went on for Katherine & Geoff’s romantic, 1930’s inspired wedding day!

Katherine & Geoff met almost a decade ago in the most random of places - Bloomington, Indiana. Geoff was studying French history and Katherine was studying Russian language and culture - neither of which they utilize for anything but witty dinner conversation. They moved to Boston in 2014 and bought a home together a few years later. They have a “fickle feline overlord” named Beau, who followed Geoff home on his mail route one day. Instant member of the family! They love watching old movies (especially Casablanca), taking walks around the neighborhood hand in hand, exploring new places, dishing about fantasy card games and Star Trek, and trying new recipes.

They had planned a simple City Hall wedding, picked the date, and got it engraved on the inside of their wedding bands… and then they got a call from City Hall cancelling their appointment (and all appointments that day) for meetings. So what did they do? Katherine & Geoff took a deep breath and found another way! Priscilla Geaney is my favorite Justice of the Peace who I’ve worked with over the years at my “big weddings” - so we knew who to call right away!

The weather was slated to pour all day, which it definitely did during their ceremony, but we had a few totally clear hours to shoot around the Boston Public Garden and Beacon Hill (which were EMPTY from the rain!) before heading to Long Wharf to pop a bottle of champagne. Smart cookie Katherine swapped her Jimmy Choo’s for LL Bean boots to walk almost 4 miles around the city! She sported a dress from the 1930’s, and wrapped around her bouquet were her mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother’s wedding rings. Four generations of women! Incredible. They finished with a glass of champagne, sang “Singing In The Rain,” and went home to dry of and feed the cat before their celebratory wedding dinner.

An emotional Boston City Hall + Beacon Hill wedding

An emotional Boston City Hall + Beacon Hill wedding

Wani & Oscar had an incredible, emotional Boston City Hall wedding - they cried during their vows, exchanged sparkly rings, took the T to Beacon Hill, got scolded by a security guard at the MA State House, ran into a co-worker, froze their fingers off for the name of love and photography, and ended at their favorite cafe in the whole wide world: Tatte.

A quintessential Boston anniversary session

Boston is a very sentimental place… especially for Kate & Emmanuel. This is where their life, their home, and their love story lies.

I had the honor of photographing Kate and E for their first anniversary - lucky in love, married goofballs who jive to classical music (how they met in college - flute and clarinet players!), E’s homemade margaritas, and late night trips to Target.

They hit all their favorite places - Beacon Hill (where they love taking walks) and the Esplanade (where they picnic and listen to live music). Show these cuties some love!

A springtime Boston Public Garden engagement

There's nothing lovelier than spending springtime in Boston with the one you love.

Cassandra & Chris: lovers of hiking, kayaking, and planting their garden together - with their beloved pup, of course! Chris lived in Boston for years before moving to New York with Cassandra, so they decided to road trip back to the city for their urban engagement shoot at the Boston Public Garden!

They practiced their first dance (and learned they may need a little MORE practice), popped a bottle of champagne (even though they love peach-flavored booze better) and smelled the spring blooms before the rain came.

They’re tying the knot in the Berkshires this summer - can’t wait to get the party started!

An autumn Beacon Hill / Boston Public Garden engagement session

An autumn Beacon Hill / Boston Public Garden engagement session

Pumpkins, pink roses, and cupcakes, oh my! This quintessential Boston engagement shoot will leave you speechless! From Beacon Hill to the Public Garden, Chelsea & Roger rocked their fall session.

A chic winter Boston Public Garden engagement

From the moment they met, Kelly & Jonathan knew there was something extra special about each other. These lovers of Italian food, cuddles, and the great outdoors took a trip to New York City in October, where Jon completely surprised Kelly by proposing in Central Park!

"It's something I replay in my mind almost every night before I go to sleep" says Kelly.

They're getting married next fall outside of Boston, and decided to bundle up in the most fashionable winter attire and adventure around the Boston Public Garden! You would never know, but it was a cool 29 degrees that day with a breeze - but these two rocked their session!

An autumn Beacon Hill engagement in Boston

Aditya flew all the way from Chicago to Boston to see his beautiful bride-to-be Megha for their utterly Boston engagement shoot! The pair loves Beacon Hill, so they woke up early on a grey Saturday to bring some sunshine into the city! They're tying the knot in India this month - congrats to the happy couple!
