A laid-back Boston City Hall + Kane's Donuts + Columbus Park wedding

Ray and Melissa met when Melissa joined Appcues in March 2016, where Ray had been working for about a year. Ray knew she was special before he even met her - she won him over with the box of donuts she sent to the office ahead of her first day of work. After months of sitting next to each other, an ice cream sandwich challenge, and many questions about CSS selectors, they had become good friends. Melissa introduced Ray to the best ice cream in the world. Ray introduced Melissa to skee-ball.

Melissa left the team in 2017, but they still kept in touch. Without work in common they got to focus on the important things, like eating more donuts and going on hikes. Eventually Melissa realized, "It was him the whole time!" Luckily, the feeling was mutual. Ray had been patiently waiting for her to get on the same page. Without feelings stated out loud, they proceeded cautiously to protect their friendship. They went on a few “is this a date?” dates before Ray walked Melissa home in a blizzard and laid it all out there.

From that day on, the two were in it together for the long haul. Ray and Melissa couldn’t stop talking about the future they were so excited to share together. On a chilly fall day in November, just eight months after Ray’s blizzard confession, they got engaged in Gambier, Ohio.

Today, the two live together in South Boston with their perfect little labradoodle named Charlie. They’re obsessed with Jeni’s Ice Cream, fresh donuts, Tasty Burger, cooking together, home improvement shows (looking at you Chip and Joanna Gaines) and being outside. They’re getting married in Vermont this weekend, but knew they wanted to get their marriage license in Boston and have a quiet celebration with just the two of them. Best of both worlds! Congratulations Melissa and Ray!!!

An autumn Cambridge City Hall + Harvard Square wedding

Milk Bar Wedding - Harvard Square

“Being together is easy even when the going gets tough.“

Sarah and Connor met in 2013 when Connor sat behind Sarah in their organic chemistry class in chiropractic school. Connor was noisily waving the sign-in-sheet in Sarah’s ear, and she angrily snatched it from him. She did not like him. Fast forward 2.5 years, many difficult classes, boards, and life-events later and suddenly they were friends. They took a motorcycle ride to his hometown in rural Kansas over the Fourth of July 2015, and that sealed the deal. That fall, they took a trip together to Colorado, hiked a 14-er, Sarah had a panic attack in the tent, and after she got back home to St. Louis, he called her to ask if she wanted to be his girlfriend. The rest is history!

They moved from the midwest to Boston for Connor’s law degree, and wanted to celebrate with their family and friends from all over the country in this wonderful place they now call home. They exchanged teary vows at Cambridge City Hall, and headed to Mt. Auburn Cemetery for photos. It’s a beautiful, expansive slice of nature that is quiet, serene, and where they love taking walks. No Cambridge wedding would be complete without a quick trip to Harvard Square, where Sarah & Connor toasted with Milk Bar truffles and popped champagne. They waited for hours in the dead of winter for Milk Bar’s opening day, so it was only fitting that they come back on a warmer, much happier day :) CONGRATS darlings!!!!

An autumn Boston City Hall + Beacon Hill wedding

Allison and JP go wayyy back to high school, although they didn’t really meet again until a mutual friend’s wedding in 2016. Allison told JP that she was a terrible dancer… and the pick up line WORKED! After a few years of dating, JP came home from a Bruins game and said, “Let’s get married.” She thought he was joking, but replied, “Ok, when?” and they started planning! It was the most non-traditional engagement, but it was perfect for them. They picked out a ring together, and kept the whole thing a fun little secret between the two of them! Until October 1st that is, when they tied the knot at Boston City Hall with their chatty, adorable four year old sidekick Sophia. It was a beautiful fall day as they traveled to the Boston Public Garden and danced around Beacon Hill, excited for their celebration dinner and the big online reveal to everyone they know. They’re going on a three part honeymoon next week - time to relax in Hawaii! Congrats to the new Mr & Mrs!

A sentimental Boston City Hall + Back Bay wedding

Danielle and Kyle got roped into a first date after lots of shared cups of coffee in the company kitchen. They kept their relationship under wraps until they knew it was “real” - and after a test weekend in the middle of winter in Portland, Maine, it was definitely legit! Danielle and Kyle got on the same page about life, kids, and their future, so they bought a house together and are full steam ahead on creating an amazing life together!

They returned to Portland and picked out a classic, vintage inspired ring made for women who had to go back to work in factories during WWII called “the victory ring,” made with the strongest prong setting available and dainty engraving on the band to demonstrate the balance of strength and feminism desired by women in that era.

After reading their handwritten vows at Boston City Hall, Danielle and Kyle re-created their entire relationship by hitting all the special spots they share memories from in Boston: running on the Esplanade, Kyle’s stoop on Dartmouth Street, walking along Comm Ave together, Danielle watching Kyle finish the Boston Marathon, and even eating their favorite avocado toast at Met Back Bay.

A Cambridge City Hall + MIT wedding

12 years after Jeff helped Victoria move into her freshman dorm at MIT, they paraded on Killian Court where it all started on their wedding day! After running around Beacon Hill and the Public Garden, they exchanged vows with tears in both their eyes at Cambridge City Hall.⠀

Victoria lives in Seattle and Jeff has one year left to finish his PhD in Virginia, so this week they spent together in Boston was extra special.

"The more I learned, the more there was to like – I discovered Jeff to be as compassionate as he is logical, as humble as he is intelligent, and possessive of a curiosity that continues to inspire me on a near-daily basis."⠀

Cross country long distance relationships are no joke, and it takes an extra-unbreakable bond, clear communication, and lots of patience to make it work. They're counting down the days when they can live in the same city again, but for now, they're enjoying their mini-moon in beautiful Boston!

Thank you to the amazing vendors!

A laid back East Boston + Barking Crab wedding

Melissa and Jamie’s story goes wayyyy back to Myspace in 2005. He sent her a message, they met up, were friends for a few months, then went their separate ways. 8 years later, Jamie found Melissa on Facebook, and asked her out to drinks, wondering how life was treating her. They were both single… and as Melissa said, “We honestly haven’t been separated since that night.” They moved in together, fostered a ton of dogs, foster failed one of them (they adopted the “feisty bitchy barky chihuahua” named Nina), and had a baby boy! Melissa and Jamie love being out on the water near their East Boston home, watching Red Sox games, road trips with their son, and catching up on a good TV show after everyone goes to bed.

They knew they wanted a low-key wedding - something with only their closet friends and family members, and something close to home. “No DJ's, no first dances, no crazy long nights,” said the bride. So, they chose a garden steps from their home in East Boston, lovingly known as Eastie, overlooking the harbor and the Boston skyline. Jamie and Melissa shared their vows with tears in their eyes, and as they sealed the deal with a kiss, their neighbors rang shipyard bells in celebration. They walked down the stairs right to the East Boston Shipyard, where they caught the water taxi straight to the dock at the Barking Crab in Seaport, where 45 guests were waiting for their arrival (and to munch on lobster rolls!). Congratulations Melissa & Jamie! You did it!!!

A Boston City Hall + North End + Columbus Park wedding

From Los Angeles to Boston, Ashley & Alex are my favorite movie stars around. Their parents and siblings joined them on their cross-country adventure to get married in Boston!⠀
Ashley & Alex met at Starbucks six years ago in MA, became BFFs, THEN fell in love! And of course, moved to the West Coast together, where they love to grab popcorn, watch movies, play with their dog, and go to movie Q&A's with actors and directors of films. But don't worry, they're still obsessed with everything regarding Boston sports and New England (especially Martha's Vineyard).⠀
They had a short and sweet ceremony with their family at Boston City Hall (performed by the very Greek city clerk Alex, to Alex's very Greek family - OPAAA), then danced over to Mike's Pastry to celebrate with their family Florentine cannoli, then the waterfront at Columbus Park for some gorgeous ivy & arch photos. Oh, and they ended with some Greek wedding cookies and a popcorn fight on the lawn. The PERFECT day!!!

An Irish Boston Public Garden wedding

Elaine & Conor said "I do" in the Public Garden on Friday, but you have to say it like they did, in an adorable Irish accent! These two met EIGHT years ago out dancing, "where we immediately hit it off and got on like a house on fire" 🔥⠀

Conor moved to Boston for work and Elaine is finishing up her residency in Ireland, but that doesn't phase them - they've done distance off and on and know that Skype dates and transatlantic travel is the best cure!

The new Mr. & Mrs. Smyth had a first look (Conor got very emotional!), a sweet Irish ceremony with my dearest JOP Priscilla officiating (and 30 curious onlookers in the park), traveled around Beacon Hill, and ended with a bottle of champagne at the waterfront all before their romantic dinner at Mistral that night!

Thank you to the amazing vendors!

A puppy-filled Boston City Hall + Public Garden wedding

Cathy and Evan, 15 years in the making!!! Oh, and we can't forget about Gotham, their chihuahua-lab-dachshund mix 🐶 These puppy parents are a self proclaimed "old married couple," obsessed with pho, bubble tea, BBQs, ice cream, traveling, river tubing, you name it.

On their 15th anniversary, they arrived at Boston City Hall ready to finally get married! Around 20 of their friends and family came to celebrate, bringing bubbles for a grand exit down the stairs of City Hall Plaza!

Cathy and Evan got engaged in Belgium at the Herge Museum, a museum dedicated to the creator of the Dutch comic “The Adventures of Tintin.” They paid homage to their favorite cartoon and proposal memories with a custom wooden bow tie and earrings with illustrations printed on them.

After family formals, Evan put on some Backstreet Boys and they danced down Comm Ave in fabulously dramatic fashion before saying heyooo to Romeo & Juliet, the swans in the Public Garden.⠀

A sentimental Boston City Hall + Public Garden wedding

Anna & Matt have been together forever! They shared their first kiss in the rain overlooking the beach at Salem Willows way back in high school 🥰 A couple of college degrees, an apartment, a house and a dog later... 💍⠀

SO, everything from the pouring rain on that day, the romantic willow trees in the Public Garden, to their date (the eve of their 12th anniversary) came full circle 😭 They were so excited to breathe a sigh of relief that they finally did it (and so people would stop asking when / where / how they'd be getting married after all those years 😂)⠀

Their parents joined them for their Boston City Hall ceremony, and the rest of their families met them at the Boston Public Garden. Anna’s sisters surprised them with a custom wedding sign, too! So adorable! They waltzed through the garden, up to the State House, and ended in Beacon Hill, on Joy Street <3

A Chinese + Puerto Rican Boston City Hall Wedding

Luxi and Kenny met while both studying at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York 5 years ago. They were friends first, but not for long. They graduated, moved around the country for different jobs, and have been traveling back and forth to visit each other long distance from Pennsylvania —> Boston. They’re self-proclaimed nerds (and both super smart chemists), love hiking, snuggling on the couch watching tv together, being silly, and eating Chinese food.

Kenny proposed on their trip to Yellowstone last May, and they knew they wanted to have a low-key celebration in Boston. Kenny’s cousin traveled from upstate New York, his mom traveled from Puerto Rico, and Luxi’s parents flew in from China! They were so proud to incorporate both their cultures - Kenny wore a red tie (for good luck in Chinese culture) and flag pins from both their countries. Luxi swapped out her American wedding dress for a Chinese one, along with gold rings in the shape of a phoenix and a dragon, believed to be good luck and signify a marriage filled with unity, harmony, and balance.

Here’s to staying silly, remaining in harmony, and exploring every single national park together!

A romantic, 1930's inspired Boston Public Garden wedding

Boston City Hall may have cancelled their appointment, but the show went on for Katherine & Geoff’s romantic, 1930’s inspired wedding day!

Katherine & Geoff met almost a decade ago in the most random of places - Bloomington, Indiana. Geoff was studying French history and Katherine was studying Russian language and culture - neither of which they utilize for anything but witty dinner conversation. They moved to Boston in 2014 and bought a home together a few years later. They have a “fickle feline overlord” named Beau, who followed Geoff home on his mail route one day. Instant member of the family! They love watching old movies (especially Casablanca), taking walks around the neighborhood hand in hand, exploring new places, dishing about fantasy card games and Star Trek, and trying new recipes.

They had planned a simple City Hall wedding, picked the date, and got it engraved on the inside of their wedding bands… and then they got a call from City Hall cancelling their appointment (and all appointments that day) for meetings. So what did they do? Katherine & Geoff took a deep breath and found another way! Priscilla Geaney is my favorite Justice of the Peace who I’ve worked with over the years at my “big weddings” - so we knew who to call right away!

The weather was slated to pour all day, which it definitely did during their ceremony, but we had a few totally clear hours to shoot around the Boston Public Garden and Beacon Hill (which were EMPTY from the rain!) before heading to Long Wharf to pop a bottle of champagne. Smart cookie Katherine swapped her Jimmy Choo’s for LL Bean boots to walk almost 4 miles around the city! She sported a dress from the 1930’s, and wrapped around her bouquet were her mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother’s wedding rings. Four generations of women! Incredible. They finished with a glass of champagne, sang “Singing In The Rain,” and went home to dry of and feed the cat before their celebratory wedding dinner.

A sunny Boston City Hall + Esplanade Wedding

Félicitations and felicidades to Ariane + David = the most perfect French + Chilean pair to ever get married in the beautiful city of Boston. They love their little backyard in the South End, where David proposed to Ariane on a perfect sunny day at home with their cats. They love going on long walks when the weather is nice, so they chose to do just that on their wedding day! From Boston City Hall (where Ariane loved officiant Maureen’s antique typewriter) to the Boston Public Garden all the way to the Esplanade where they popped a French bottle of champagne.

A North End + Boston City Hall Wedding

Karley & Aidan tied the knot at Boston City Hall and had an absolute blast! She's from Canada, he's from Massachusetts, and they met in VEGAS! She even rocked a Red Sox jacket to show a little Boston sports team spirit. They took a walk to the historically Italian neighborhood The North End, and stopped into the famous Mike’s Pastry for some celebratory cannolis!

A glamorous, springtime Boston City Hall + Public Garden wedding

"You're the salt to my vinegar, the almond butter to my jelly, the lime to my tequila..."

They compliment each other in the best of ways: ramen for Nichole, Thai for Kass. Wine for Nichole, whiskey for Kass. Nichole's shopping weakness are candles, Kass's are shoes.

After almost 4 years and a sweet, sweet proposal at their home in February, these two said I DO! With lots of tears + tissues obvi. Their vow books matched the baby blue painted iron of the bridge over the Boston Public Garden pond, and they got married on the same day that famous swans Romeo & Juliet were released into the park for the summer season. Could you ask for any more perfect, romantic timing!?

We all prepared for pouring rain, and instead the universe gave us a beautiful Boston day. These two have been through a lifetime of ups and downs together already, in sickness and health, and truly cherish every moment with each other. Here’s to the new B Family!!! xox

A Zambian-American Brookline Town Hall wedding

Aimee & Bruce tied the knot 5 minutes down the street from their home at Brookline Town Hall - but their love story started almost 5 years ago!⁣

Aimee was originally introduced to Africa when she was sent to South Africa with the US Peace Corps. She absolutely loved it, and moved a few countries over to Zambia for another job, where she met social butterfly lawyer Bruce. He showed her around his country, explaining the history and culture, and after that, they were inseparable. Bruce moved from Africa to Boston to attend BU Law school, and told Aimee that she was what he wanted for his future. They took her family jewelry and mixed it with emerald, one of Zambia’s largest exports. Aimee and Bruce both incorporated bright Zambian colors in their wardrobe and accessories - EPIC!!!⁣

Bruce revels in good beer and English soccer, and Aimee loves researching new places to travel to together and taking a relaxing (and intellectual) stroll through a museum.⁣ Their families from California and Zambia came to celebrate the new Mr. & Mrs. Mwauluka and pop some champagne in the city today - give these two some newlywed LOVE!!!

An emotional Boston City Hall + Beacon Hill wedding

An emotional Boston City Hall + Beacon Hill wedding

Wani & Oscar had an incredible, emotional Boston City Hall wedding - they cried during their vows, exchanged sparkly rings, took the T to Beacon Hill, got scolded by a security guard at the MA State House, ran into a co-worker, froze their fingers off for the name of love and photography, and ended at their favorite cafe in the whole wide world: Tatte.

A Boston City Hall Wedding on Valentine's Day

Amanda & Trent will tickle you pink with their Boston City Hall wedding on Valentines Day! They tied the knot in their favorite city before catching a flight just two hours later to their honeymoon in New Orleans!⁣⠀

Their ceremony and some of their portraits afterwards were actually filmed by an NBC news crew... not sure if we ever made it on TV, but you bet we were excited!

Amanda sported the FLUFFIEST pink coat with a perfectly matching lace belt and the most adorable vintage kitten heels. Trent came in blazing with maroon trousers, floral tie, and tan jacket. FASHION ICONS!!!⁣⠀

These two bonded over their love of vinyl records and live music three years ago, and now live together with their happy, quirky family.

A surprise winter wedding in Seaport, Boston

Buckle up for this beautiful Seaport wedding in Boston!

Kristi & Doug know that good things come to those who wait - and these two waited SIXTEEN YEARS! On a cold winter night in 2001, Kristi attended a house party that Doug was at. After introducing himself, he leapt like a frog over the couch to grab her a drink. A year later they started dating, and the rest was history. They got engaged in the Amalfi Coast in 2013, had a beautiful baby boy, and decided to tie the knot in their old neighborhood of Seaport. They surprised their family and friends by throwing a pop-up wedding on the waterfront with less than two weeks notice, after scratching their City Hall plans to be able to include more of their family and friends.
